    Sacraments

Baptism

Baptisms are only for registered members of our parish.  Parents of an infant/child to be baptized MUST attend our Baptism class.  The classes are offered January, May & September.  The class runs for four (4) consecutive Tuesday evenings at 7pm in the St. Mary's classroom. 

Upon completion of the fourth session, parents can make arrangements with the Pastor to schedule their infant/child's baptism.  (NO baptisms are scheduled during Lent).

Confirmation & 1st Communion

Confirmation & 1st Communion (Eucharist) are celebrated usually on the 1st  weekend in May.   The celebration follows the “Restored Order of Initiation of Sacraments”:  Baptism, followed by Confirmation and then First Eucharist.  As a prerequisite for the reception of the sacraments of Confirmation & 1st Communion, children are required to be baptized and attend Religious Education classes for two-years consecutive.   See “Restored Order of Initiation Sacraments” for further program requirements.

 

If a child does not meet the above criteria, he/she will need to meet with the Pastor and/or the Religious Education Director for a “Rite of Christian Initiation for Children” specifically designed process.

Marriage

Marriages must be arranged with the Pastor at least eight months in advance of the wedding date.  In addition, at least one member of the couple must have been worshipping at
St. Andrew's Parish for one year.

Anointing the Sick and Homebound

The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is available to those who are seriously ill, experiencing chronic illness, the difficulties associated with advance age, or in preparation for passing over to eternal life.  Contact the parish office to request personal visits and the sacraments for yourself or a loved one.

 

The celebration of the Anointing of the Sick consists essentially in the anointing of the forehead and hands of the sick person with oil; the anointing being accompanied by the liturgical prayer of the priest asking for the special grace of this sacrament.

Funeral Rites

The Catholic Funeral rites are:  (1) Vigil or Wake Service
(2) the funeral liturgy (Mass) or “Rite of Christian Burial”, and (3) the burial or Rite of Committal (Interment).   Ideally, funeral rites should be planned before death.  Final arrangements for the funeral rites or services are made through concurrence by the family, priest or presider, and the mortuary.
