Faith and Ministry Formation

Youth and Young Adult Ministry

"Living our Faith Through Scouting"

Chair: Nicholas M. Wieczorek

Chaplain: Rev. Steve Hoffer

The National Catholic Committee on Scouting® (NCCS) is a church committee of concerned Catholic lay people and clergy who see as their mission the constructive use of the program of the Boy Scouts of America as a viable form of youth ministry with the Catholic youth of our nation.

The committee, which is advisory to the Boy Scouts of America, seeks to sustain and strengthen the relationship between BSA and the Catholic Church in the United States.

Through interaction and dialogue with the Secretariat on the Laity and Family Life (the formal connection between youth ministry in the United States and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops), NCCS works cooperatively with various other groups involved in youth ministry in the United States.

The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting (DCCS) works with the local diocese and BSA council(s) to promote and enhance Catholic faith formation while upholding the promise of "Duty to God" in the scouting program.

2018 Scout Mass “Scouts - Lights of Our Faith”

The 35th Annual Scout Religious Emblems Mass was celebrated by Bishop Joseph A. Pepe on February 24, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church. The Mass was concelebrated with Fr. Steve Hoffer, pastor of Holy Family and Chaplain for the Catholic Committee on Scouting. Recognition and awards were presented to 49 Cub Scouts who had earned the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei medals. Fifteen Boy Scouts earned the Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII medals rewarding months of participation in the emblem program. The religious emblems are offered to all Catholic Scouts in the Diocese of Las Vegas using program materials from the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.

Beth Thompson (Christ the King), Kathy Williams (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton), and Claire Trebaol-Clark (St. Joseph Husband of Mary) were recognized with the Diocesan Bronze Pelican medal, recognizing their faith-based service to the scouts and Committee over many years of participation.
